well, as most know... last week i was in italy... texas (i just love the effect that has on some... *grin*).. i got there on monday around 6pm - past their office closing time, but decided to swing by the main office anyway to check out the domes there.
when i drove up, there was already a new dome on-site, and the work crew were rolling up hoses, and pretty much shutting down for the evening.
my heart sunk!

left 2 years ago and surf nearly every night.
i was an elder for 11 years did circuit assembly items etc.
in fact i did everything the society said.
Welcome littlemike,
leaving was very hard - i walked away form my family and friends. I felt i had wasted my entire youth. was brought up jw most of my life - then pioneered. i have had to rebuild my life - with real friends. Peole who have something in common with me not my religion. please believe me when i say that you have made the biggest and hardest step. take all the good bits about your life to date and forget about the cr*p. These feelings are hard to deal with - i can relate so well to how you feel - but it will get better.
looking forward to getting to know you,
Welcome to the World - come in and enjoy all it has to offer.
Kind regards
Lass
put yourself back in a dub's kids shoes and make up your own young people ask titles.. here's mine:.
young people ask:.
why do i have to go to these lousy meetings five times a week?.
YPA - Why do elders wear cheap suits?
YPA - Why do only poor people pioneer?
YPA - What?s a homosexual? ( this was a true question asked in front of the whole congregation during a public talk by a 9 year old boy - you can imagine the response)

i heard some sad news today.
an old friend of my mum's has apparentely committed suicide.
i remember the woman well, a devout jw with an amazing sense of humour and a lovely personality.
Dmouse,
I am sorry to say that I have known quite a few jw who have committed suicide. Most have had their funeral in the KH as the elders felt that they must have been mentally ill to have done such a thing therefore not accountable. I agree - this degree of sympathy has been a reflection in the persons standing in the hall prior to their death.
dear brother or sister, .
my name is anne marie.
i used to be on the forum a lot until i lost my internet service.. last august, through god's grace, i finally "got it" and turned my life over to the care of jesus.
Sorry Anne Marie - a bit far for us to travel,
But thanks for the information,
Lass
i have been lurking for quite some time and thought i would finally drop in.
as my alias might suggest, i am somewhat of a history buff.
i have enjoyed reading metatron, farkel, maximus, blondie, and countless other posters insightful threads over the past several years.
Welcome Rodin,
Looking forward to getting to know you
Hope you enjoy your time here,
Love

no surprise, i don't post here much these days.. but today, i have to.. when i first arrived here back in january 2003, i remember looking at this very section of the board.
personal experiences & reunions.. well.....i got the shock...the absolute shock of a lifetime.
some of you, i'm sure, when you remember folks in your jw past, there are those whom you thought you'd never ever hear from.. last night, i get home from work (4:00 a.m.) and i go on-line, open my e-mail, and i see a name i have not seen since my jw days of 1983/84.. how did i feel?
Ray,
I have not met you yet so HI all the way from Bonnie Scotland!
What a fantastic story!!!!!
You have given me the courage to contact my friend who after we got DF together - went back. I have since heard that she has fallen away again so I am going to contact her and tell her how much I miss her in the hope we can be like you and pick up where we left off.
Such good news for you - thank you for sharing that it made my day!

we've talked about this subject several times since i joined this site... .
time and again i will get together with xjws and they still refer for instance to being a jw as being in the truth.. .
i've talked to people who have been out 2 or 5 or even 10 yrs and they still refer to it as that in their conversations... .
Sassy,
You are so right! lol
My parents are still JW's although my mum has not attended meetings for a while. I am very careful never to refer to it as the 'truth' anymore and tend to refer to it as meetings or the hall - as in - 'is xxxxx still going to the hall? My dad who is still attending still refers to it as the truth.
I think it would be quite easy to slip back into that lingo if you were not careful.
Kind Regards
Lass
of all the religions i know of, the one that is the most time consuming, is the jw religion.
it's not just the fact that there is a meeting every 2 days, but these meetings have to be prepared ahead of time.
being a jw, is almost a full time job.
One meeting a week is more than enough!
My friends belong to a church group that sounds fantastic - they are basically just Christian and live their life in a Christian way. We were trying to organise an outing one weekend and they were quite happy to miss their meeting that day - they thought God would be quite happy for them just to be out enjoying his creation. I kept saying - ' but what will the church leaders say - will they not be too happy with you? - They just laughed and said there are no rules about attending church - people go because they want to and if they don?t feel like it they don?t!
I remember having to go to meetings even when I was unwell ? everyone was terrified of missing them, as gossip would start as to why you were not there!
